About SCA

Sager Classical Academy desires to partner with local families who are seeking to find a place for their children to love the
Lord with their minds as well as their hearts and hands, to flourish in a like-minded community, and to rediscover
the lost tools of learning.

Why SCA?

We study what great inventors have discovered before us, we practice experiments guided by another, we read the most beautiful hymns of the past, and so forth. We are formed by practices, which become habits, which become a life, and SCA strives to train students to love what is worth loving.

Parent Partnership Model

SCA recognizes that parents are ordained by God as the primary educators of their children. While at school, SCA serves in the place of the parent (in loco parentis), but we seek only to partner with the parent, not supplant the parent, in their child’s education. Similarly, the parent must not abdicate their role as educator, but in partnering with SCA the parent is agreeing to support SCA in its mission. SCA will serve as the curators and guides for classical Christian education.

Since PreK-6th grade students are only in school from 8-12:30, parents of K-6th grade students are expected to finish the school day at home. Teachers provide a Monday Matrix with highlighted portions that will be completed in the afternoons with parent assistance. We try to provide instruction in areas like mathematics, phonics, and writing (IEW—Institute for Excellence in Writing) that are best done with more training and practice, leaving the completion of assignments, reading a literature or history book, or completing a project to the time at home. Parents who engage in their children’s learning often see remarkable growth in their child and enjoy the times they spend together. On the other hand, parents who do not fulfill this end of the partnership often find their student falling behind and becoming frustrated.
