for the 2023-2024 School Year

Sager Classical Academy is seeking a Friday Enrichment teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The Enrichment position teaches on Fridays from 7:30-12:45 in the Lower School with grades Kindergarten-third grade. This person can teach art, culinary, STEM or creative writing. Teachers are required to attend school functions, professional development and administrative meetings which will usually occur outside of those hours.  

Position Description Summary: This position is responsible for one classroom of up to 12 students at a time. This position will teach four sections each Friday: one kindergarten, one first grade, one second grade and one third grade. The Teacher is responsible for classroom instruction, creating lesson plans and assignments based on classical curriculum, and for communicating well with parents who are partnering in the students’ education. The position anticipates 5 instructional hours per week, plus additional preparation as needed. 

The Enrichment program is designed to facilitate a love for learning and beauty. The Enrichment teacher would partner with the Dean of Lower School to design and implement lessons that guide children to understand more about the world around them through discussing Truth, seeking goodness and unveiling beauty.

Start date: Summer 2023

Required qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; agreement with and support of the school’s Statement of Faith; strong commitment to Christian education and direct experience with the Classical Model of education in previous roles either as a student or teacher. 

Additional desirable qualifications:  Experience in teaching young children. A noticeable joy and excitement for teaching young children to love the Lord and to love learning. 

Sager Classical Academy is seeking a part-time Upper School Health and Safety Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The Health and Safety position is needed for a total of 4-6 teaching hours each week, dependent on availability to instruct one 7th grade section, one 8th grade section, and one section of 9th-12th grade students two afternoons per week. 

The Upper School is a five-day-a-week model; full-time teachers normally begin their day at 7:30 a.m. and work through 2:40 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. Teachers are required to attend school functions, professional development, and administrative meetings which will usually occur outside of those hours. 

Position Description Summary: This position is responsible for classroom instruction, creating lesson plans and assignments based on viewing the human body as God’s design. Lesson plans will include instruction on general health, nutrition, hygiene, fitness, and safety. Curriculum such as Apologia’s Health and Nutrition will be provided as a teacher resource as well as lesson plans from nutrition.gov. The position anticipates 4-6 instructional hours per week plus additional preparation and grading time as needed. Starting pay is $25/hour.

Sager Classical Academy is seeking a Teacher’s Aide for the 2023 – 2024 school year. The position is a part-time position with a minimum of 20 teaching/administrative hours distributed between our Lower and Upper Schools. Starting pay begins at $10, 200.00 for the school year (August-May) with the opportunity to possibly substitute teach for additional pay.  The Teacher’s Aide  is  required to attend school functions, professional development and administrative meetings which will usually occur outside of those hours. 

Position Description Summary: This position is responsible for substitute teaching as needs arise, administrative support, assisting Deans with managerial or office duties including but not limited to making copies, assisting guests, liaising with parents or students who may need to leave school early, providing basic first aid to students, and coordinating parent volunteers.  

This position will require flexibility, while offering time and opportunity for an individual to engage in the classroom as well as help the school run efficiently with behind the scenes details.

Additional desirable qualifications:  Experience teaching or working with children in a structured environment.  Detail-oriented, friendly, outgoing, serving as a welcoming presence to guests.  Basic computer skills. 

Sager Classical Academy is seeking a part-time Upper School Science teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The Upper School is a five-day-a-week model; full-time teachers normally begin their day at 7:30 a.m. and work through 2:40 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. The Science position is needed for a total of 15 teaching hours each week, including one lab per week per class. Teachers are required to attend school functions, professional development and administrative meetings which will usually occur outside of those hours. 

Position Description Summary: This position is responsible for classroom instruction, creating lesson plans and assignments based on seeing science as natural philosophy. Required reading includes Classical Academic Press’ A New Natural Philosophy: Recovering A Natural Science and Christian Pedagogy. Susan Wise Bauer’s The Story of Western Science: From the Writings of Aristotle to the Big Bang Theory is also recommended. Further responsibilities involve assessing students with regular feedback and communicating well with parents who are partnering in our students’ education. Current openings include 8th grade Physical Science (Novare), 9th grade Biology (Apologia), and 10th-12th grade General Chemistry (Novare). Curriculum and materials will be provided. The position anticipates 15 instructional hours per week plus additional preparation and grading time as needed.

Academic Criteria:
Applicant is to hold, be pursuing, or have an academic reputation equivalent to a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in a relevant field of study from an approved college or university. The employee is to show a respectable capacity to work with colleagues, set and implement curricula, teach with order and decorum, and uphold both personally and professionally the principles of a classical Christian education.

Theological Criteria:
Administrators, teachers, along with parents, students, and academy board members, are to confess and hold to SCA’s ten-point statement of faith and its mission statement. Likewise, the employee is to be a member in good standing at a local, Christian church approved by the school board and administration.

​Experience & Education:

  • Undergraduate degree (minimum B.A. or B.S. highly desired).
  • Experience teaching lower and/or upper grammar children.
  • Previous experience in a classical Christian school as either a teacher or student is preferred.

Sager Classical Academy (SCA) is a shared-responsibility school offering classical, Christian education in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. The teachers are the heart of our academy, bringing to life our curriculum, which centers on the true, good, and beautiful. Each classroom is intentionally small with an average of 12 students, so that teachers have the opportunity to create relationships in which they can pursue wisdom alongside their students. Our lower school grammar (K-6th) will spend 16 hours per week instructing, while our upper school grammar (7th-12th) teachers may have between 20-24 hours per week of instruction with students. SCA invests in our teachers with professional development opportunities and financial incentives for consecutive years of work.

Our school is a 5 day-a-week, half-day model; depending on the class being taught, teachers work Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm for K-5th. The 6th grade teacher will teach between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm, Monday through Thursday with a half day from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays. Teachers are required to attend school functions, professional development and administrative meetings which will usually occur outside of those hours.
